It’s Fall ya’ll!!! That means busy season for everyone… including photographers everywhere! If you haven’t already gathered your family and put together outfits and gathered around in front of a camera; then I’m sure you have heard mention or seen your friend’s family photos! I’m sure you’ve also seen sign up’s for Fall mini’s or santa mini’s or some other wonderful fun kind of mini session available to you! I mean.. it is THE season friends!

But the one question I get asked the most, especially this time of year, what is the difference between a Full session and a Mini session?!

It’s also (in my opinion) one of the biggest misunderstood concepts in family photography: Full vs. Mini!

So I thought what better time to do a 5 series post on the differences between the two types of sessions and how you can determine the right session for your family’s specific needs!!

Over the next few weeks I want to chat about what exactly is a full session and then go over the details and what you can expect. We will talk about and define a mini session. Then discuss the advantages and disadvantages for both. Once we have learned about both sessions we will then go into how you can decide which session will best suit your needs! It’s important to understand that there will be seasons where one will work and another season where the other will be best! That’s the beauty of having both sessions to choose from!

Finally we will bring it all together and bring it back to you because YOU are why we all do what we do!

Why…

The main reason why I want to do this series is because both options are fantastic but both offer something completely and totally different!

As I said before, I do think there is a huge misconception surrounding the mini session. Heck… I never really thought to define the difference for myself in my own business until THIS YEAR! And truthfully, I’m horrible at running mini sessions! It’s something I am promising myself to get better at this upcoming year. I’m a little ashamed to admit it but it’s the honest truth. It’s also what brings me to write this series!

I, myself, had to figure out and define the difference so that I could better serve my clients and give them the best experience possible! And that is why I can truly say I think this area needs to be explained!!!

Most people think the biggest difference between a mini session and a full session is the time and only the time! But that’s just not true for most photographers. I can’t speak for all but speaking for me and my clients… the time only plays a very small part!

It’s more about the experience and the quality of what you are getting with the Full session verses the haste of the mini session! Are you looking for one or two photos for something specific (like a Holiday card) or do you want to capture and freeze these moments right here and now with your children because they growing and you want to document it!

We will talk more about this in the next blog when we go into detail about the full session!

I also hope to share client stories and why they chose a certain session so that maybe it will help you too!

So I hope you read on… next up will be the Full Session!
