Some families just walk into a session and you can just feel their love! It’s in the way they move together, the softness of their voices, the tenderness in their touch. It’s in the way they laugh, the way their hands just instinctively reach out for one another!
Don’t get me wrong… there’s always the wild ones. We all have those: we run, we break free, we are spirited and feel the joy completely uninhibited!
This session: This was one of those- just pure, unfiltered connection!
As a Virginia Beach family photographer, I’ve come to learn that the most beautiful moments aren’t posed. They unfold naturally, like the way this mama knelt beside her littles ones, completely immersed in their world: muddy hands, salty hair and all! Or the way their dad crouched down, steadying tiny hands as their youngest took wobbly steps into the tide pool.
It’s not about perfect… we aren’t perfect! It’s about magic! Magic in our moments. Our perfectly imperfect moments. Our ability to let go for an hour or two and just be together, play together, laugh together! It’s about celebrating this season that we are in right now, because soon we will be on to the next season… and then the next!
The Magic of Beach Family Photography in Virginia Beach
The ocean has a way of stripping everything back to what truly matters. I think that’s why I love taking my family’s to the beach. No distractions, no rush- just the sound of the waves, the laughter of children running up and down the sand, and the gorgeous cotton candy light painting the sky!
Watching the Franklin family interact was like watching love in motion! The way their son led his sister by the hand, guiding her to a perfect puddle for splashing… magic! The way their baby’s chubby fingers reached curiously for the wet sand, giggling as it squished beneath tiny palms (I swear I wanted to eat him up!). The way their parents were completely present, soft, kind, sweet and tender in every moment… it reminded me how precious that time is when our kids are little!
This is what family photography is all about- not just capturing what a family looks like, but capturing what this time feels like! And gosh, they were giving me all the feels!
Why Lifestyle Family Sessions Matter
Years from now, when these little ones are grown, these images won’t just be pictures. They will be reminders! Reminders of the way mama’s hair whipped in the wind as she played splish splash and twirled them around dipping their toes in the water! Reminders of how dad’s laughter rang out as he chased them through the shore break or splashed water at my camera! My hope is that these images will be reminders of what home felt like-wrapped up in love, adventure, slow evenings at the beach, and unbreakable bonds!
As a family photographer, my heart is in story-telling! I don’t just want to give you pretty pictures- I want to give you memories you can hold on to forever!
Because one day, when the sand has long been rinsed from our toes, this is what will remain!
